Handy Bikes is popping up in Adams Morgan this winter! We'll be subleasing the space currently occupied by our friends at Upshift Workshop. Upshift is planning a winter break, but don't worry, Upshift will be back before springtime!

If you're already familiar with Handy Bikes but the trip to Alexandria is a bit far, you can come see us in AdMo this winter instead. If you're already an Upshift customer, we'll be here to take care of you while they're on sabbatical. You can learn more about Upshift here, including Leah's story and her winter adventures.

What is Changing

Staff and Workflow

You'll see a few new faces in the shop, and a different sign in the window. Our workflow will be a bit different, because we'll be transporting your bike to our Alexandria home base for most repairs.

Appointments and Classes

You won't need an appointment. If your bike needs service, bring it in! We'll get small jobs completed within a few hours, and tuneups completed within a few days. Formal classes and educations sessions will be paused, but we're always available to talk through questions.

New Bikes and Accessories

You'll be able to purchase new bikes and accessories from any of the brands we carry in Alexandria. If there's a new bike you want to test ride, let us know and we'll bring it to Adams Morgan for you to check out.

Pricing and Packages

Handy Bikes will be honoring the pricing levels and tuneup packages that Upshift has set, so there won't be any surprises. (Note: this means the service menu for Handy Bikes Adams Morgan will be different from Handy Bikes Alexandria). Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view Adams Morgan service options and pricing.

The most important thing that isn't changing is our commitment to you. We have a 60-day satisfaction guarantee, and we mean it. If you need any readjustments or have questions, come to either location and we'll make things right.

How It Works

When you work with Handy Bikes, here's what you can expect:

1. A staff member will review your bike and discuss your needs with you. We'll give you a clear time and cost estimate for review and approval before we do anything.

2. Once work is approved, we'll transport your bike to our service center in Alexandria VA for work to be completed. There is no additional transport fee.

3. Our Alexandria staff will communicate directly with you to answer any questions or if we find any unexpected challenges. We will discuss options and get your approval every step of the way.

4. Once work is complete, we'll transport your bike back to Adams Morgan for you to pick up -- or you can come to Alexandria if you prefer.

All our work is backed by our industry-leading 60-day guarantee. If any readjustments are needed, just come back to see us at either location and we'll take care of it!

- Checking frame and components for fatigue/wear
- Basic adjustments to brakes and shifting
- Tightening all nuts & bolts to manufacturer’s spec
- Lubricating bike chain
- Inflating tires to manufacturer’s spec
- Simple bike fit modifications (saddle height & position, stem height)

Ebike Service. Available for UL-certified class 1, 2, and 3 ebikes only. No scooters, mopeds, electric motorcycles, Surrons, or similar.

Handy Bikes owner Pete and Upshift Workshop owner Leah first met through the DC cycling community about a decade ago.
